Gratian, 367-383. Struck 367-375 at Arelate (Arles).
19 mm. 1.76 grams.
GLORIA NOVI SAECVLI, emperor standing right, head left, holding labarum in right and with left on shield.
TCON in exergue (Arles was known as Constantina at the time).
DN GRATIANVS AVGG AVG.
This is a unique termination to an obverse legend: AVGG AVG which has provoked much discussion. It may mean,
"Augustus in a line of Augusti" emphasising that he was actually the son of an Augustus.

Not only is this type only for Gratian, is is struck only at Arelate.
