Julia Maesa
, sister of Julia Domna and grandmother of the boy emperors Elagabalus
(218-222 AD) and Severus Alexander (222-235 AD). Her name is on the obverse,
and the reverse is FECVNDITAS, a reference to "fruitfulness" of the imperial
women. This coin is a 19mm silver denarius of unusual style because
it was struck at an eastern mint (possibly Emesa in Syria, the home of
the family, or possibly Antioch) rather than Rome.
Herennia Etruscilla, wife of Trajan Decius, Roman emperor
249-251 AD. The reverse is PVDICITIA AVG, modesty of the Augusta. The coin
is a large (30mm), thick, copper sestertius. The "SC" below the
figure abbreviates "SENATUS CONSULTO" ("with the consent of the Senate")
which almost invariably appears on this denomination.
A coin of Fausta (wife of Constantine)
Another coin of Fausta.
A first-issue coin of Faustina II (wife
of Marcus Aurelius)
